FAQ
-
What kind of game is Descent into Midnight?
It's a tabletop roleplaying game. You get together with a small group of friends and tell a story together about characters and a world you create together at the table.
-
What rules system does the game use?
Descent into Midnight is a Powered by the Apocalypse game, meaning that it is built using the mechanics of games like Apocalypse World and its descendants. We also took inspiration from other games to get the experience just right. We owe a lot in particular to Masks: A New Generation and Headspace.

Where can I get the game?
Currently, we have a Quick Start Guide available for free if you'd like to play now. We're using Kickstarter to fund the initial print run and pay the team for all the art, layout, and other work required to produce a high quality product. After that, we're using BackerKit to manage the shipping and add-ons, so you'll be able to get in on the initial print run up until we make the order. Once the backers have received their physical copies from the initial run, we'll be working with a print-on-demand vendor to make physical copies available. PDF copies will be available for purchase as soon as the digital version is complete. We will be updating this section with more information as we reach each step in the process.

When can I get the game?
The Kickstarter campaign is running from February 15th through March 15th. Once we have funding, we'll be finalizing the text and layout and commissioning the rest of the art. We're targeting December of 2020 for delivery of the final product.
-
How many players does the game support?
We have run the game with as little as the Guide plus one player. That said, the game works best with three to six, including the Guide. At its core, the game is about a team of guardians who are both deeply connected to each other and the community they're protecting, and the mechanics expect there to be other players to interact with.
-
What supplies do I need?
To play, you'll need a copy of the rules, a copy of the moves sheet, a copy of the playbooks you want to use, a few pencils, and some six-sided dice. The Quick Start Guide is available for free if you want to try the game right away.
-
Where will the donated copies go?
If you have a specific person or organization you'd like to send the donated copy to, you'll have the opportunity to let us know where you want it to go. Otherwise, they will be donated to a library or school in the San Diego, California area.
